Fust Survival Ore Locations: Where to Find Ore and How to Mine It
Ore in Fust Survival comes from rock nodes on the island. Learn how to craft the Stone Pickaxe, spot sulphur and metal ore veins, mine them with LMB, and smelt what you gather.
The short answer
Quick answer
Ore is mined from grey rock nodes on the island: sulphur ore appears as yellow crystal spikes, and metal ore comes from a similar ore-bearing node. You need a Stone Pickaxe (Wood 200 / Stones 100, crafted with no workbench) and the LMB SWING/GATHER action to harvest them.
- Tool: Stone Pickaxe, from the CRAFTING menu TOOLS category
- Cost: Wood 200 and Stones 100
- Action: LMB SWING/GATHER on the ore-bearing rock, as listed on the CONTROLS panel
- Confirmation: the HUD log shows the ore you picked up
The tool you need first: Stone Pickaxe
The Stone Pickaxe is what players use to mine both sulphur ore and metal ore deposits, so it is your first crafting job if you want ore.
Open the crafting menu and go to the TOOLS category. The Stone Pickaxe recipe sits under a "NO WORKBENCH" label, so you do not need a workbench to make it. The recipe shows:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Ingredients | Wood 200 / Stones 100 |
| Damage | 15 |
| Craft time | 2s |
| Craft limit shown | "can make 5" |
Both ingredients come from the starting gathering loop: wood from trees, stones from rock and stone gathering. If you have just spawned, see the beginner guide for the opening beats, or the resource gathering guide if you want to understand what you are collecting before you craft. The tools overview covers where the pickaxe sits among the other early tools.
The craft limit of 5 is worth noting before you spend a full stack of wood: the recipe does not let you queue an unlimited number of pickaxes at once.
Where to find ore: the rock nodes
It comes from rock nodes with visually distinct ore veins, and the veins are what tell you what you are about to mine:
- Sulphur ore appears as yellow crystal spikes growing out of a grey rock. That colour contrast is the landmark — if you see yellow clusters on grey stone, that is a sulphur node.
- Metal ore is mined from a similar ore-bearing rock node: a grey rock carrying a visible ore vein of its own.
Both are found on the island; the work is in spotting the right node as you move around. The in-game map, opened with M, shows the island with labelled points such as "Outpost", which is useful for knowing where you are and how far you have roamed while you search.
Ore is not a side activity in this game — it is part of the core loop the game itself describes: wash up on the beach, gather wood, stone and ore, craft tools, smelt metal in your furnace and build a base. Progress on your server saves until the weekly Friday wipe, so ore you bank now carries over until then. See the wipe schedule for how that reset works.

How to mine an ore node
Once you have the pickaxe, the mining action itself is simple, but the order matters:
- Craft and equip the Stone Pickaxe. The pickaxe is the tool that mines sulphur and metal ore; the action is tied to the tool, so have it in hand.
- Find a node with a visible ore vein — yellow crystal spikes for sulphur, or a grey rock bearing metal ore.
- Strike the rock with the default LMB action, listed on the CONTROLS panel as SWING/GATHER.
- Check the HUD log to confirm what you gained. The log reports the resources picked up from the swing.
A node can pay out more than the ore it advertises. In the recorded example, hitting a sulphur node added +670 Sulphur Ore and also +120 Stones to the HUD log, and a separate Stone Pickaxe mining sequence logged +60 Sulphur Ore and +60 Metal Ore. Those figures came from a DOUBLE RATES modded server event, so treat them as an illustration of how the HUD reports gains, not as standard-server amounts — exact amounts depend on the server and its rates.
The useful signal to watch for is the log line itself: ore appears in the log the moment a swing connects, so if a hit logs nothing, check that you are on an ore node and swinging with the pickaxe.
The ore types and what they are for
At least three ore resources exist and appear in your resource list: Metal Ore, Sulfur Ore and HQM Ore. All three show up in the furnace's FOR RESOURCES slots alongside Wood and Raw Meat, and the furnace input accepts each of these ores. Two of those ores have a clear destination:
| Ore | What it feeds |
|---|---|
| Metal Ore | Smelts into Metal Fragments — the recorded furnace session logged +52 Metal Fragments, and Metal Fragments are an ingredient of Workbench 1, which costs Metal Fragments 50 and Wood 500 |
| Sulphur Ore | Feeds Gun Powder — the Gun Powder recipe combines Sulphur 10 + Charcoal 10 to produce Gun Powder x10 |
| HQM Ore | Accepted by the furnace in the FOR RESOURCES slots; no further use is described on this page |
Metal ore is effectively the gateway to your first workbench tier. Charcoal, the other gunpowder ingredient, is a furnace by-product, which links sulphur gathering directly to your furnace routine and, from there, to explosives and raiding. The raid guide covers where that leads.
For the furnace side of the loop, the furnace guide and the smelting guide explain the input slots, fuel and output handling. One caution on rates: the furnace footer in the recorded session read "Smelts 5 ores per slot", but that text came from the DOUBLE RATES modded server, so do not assume that exact throughput on a standard server.
Putting the loop together
The practical order is: gather Wood 200 and Stones 100, craft the Stone Pickaxe in the TOOLS category with no workbench, find a grey rock node with sulphur crystals or a metal vein, and swing with LMB while watching the HUD log for gains. Carry the ore home and load it into the furnace — Metal Ore toward Metal Fragments and Workbench 1, Sulphur Ore toward Gun Powder.
If you are still choosing what to do with your first session, the fast progression guide puts ore gathering into the wider early-game order, and the crafting guide covers how recipes and categories are organised beyond tools.
